Brief Counselling and ConsultationWe offer brief counselling and consultation sessions to clients who want to meet occasionally to address specific goals.
Single session therapy is a well-documented and effective approach for achieving significant and lasting change. Clients often utilize this approach to discuss a current issue or difficulty that they are experiencing. These sessions focus on understanding current challenges, strengths, and solutions. Specific recommendations are shared and discussed at the end of the session. Single sessions and consultations are usually scheduled on an as-needed basis. Clients may come only once, or may find that it is helpful to have the opportunity to return as new challenges arise, often months or even years later. This is a solution focused brief model of therapy - it is a positive and highly effective way to work through minor to moderate issues. |
Intensive CounsellingThere are times when clients identify one or more concerns that are causing significant distress in their lives. In these cases, clients often want to dedicate a concentrated amount of time to work through these difficulties.
Intensive therapy is often viewed as a more traditional approach to handling life challenges. Clients may choose to engage in weekly or bi-weekly sessions for a longer period of time - ranging from 2-12 months, and occasionally longer. In intensive counselling, the focus of the first 1-3 sessions is to provide a clinical assessment and to establish one or more counselling goals. Treatment recommendations will be suggested and explained. Subsequent sessions will focus on utilizing the most effective counselling interventions to work towards lasting and effective change. Once clients determine that they are satisfied with what has been accomplished, a closing session will be arranged. This is an important phase of counselling, and serves to celebrate the work that has been accomplished, discuss what has worked or not worked, and make practical plans for the future. |
